Information about enrolling in or changing to a master's program

After you received the letter of acceptance for a master's program you have to enroll at Universität Hamburg. You will find all necessary information on the documents required for enrollment in our enrollment checklists below. Please check your documents carefully using these checklists. Further detailed information on how to enroll is provided here: www.uni-hamburg.de/enrollment

Students who do not yet have their bachelor's certificate can still apply for a master's program at Universität Hamburg. Formal admission can only be granted, however, when the certificate is submitted by the end of the first semester of the master's program (31 March for admission to a winter semester, 30 Sept. for admission to a summer semester). As long as the certificate remains outstanding, students are only provisionally enrolled.

Checklists for enrollment in master degree programs

Please use the following checklists for your enrollment. These checklists contain binding information on the documents required for enrollment.

Documents which necessarily have to be submitted within the enrollment period, are marked in color in the checklists. You can submit the other documents later without jeopardizing your admission.

Bachelor's programs at external universities

Applicants who have completed a bachelor's at a university other than Universität Hamburg are also enrolled in master's programs on a conditional basis. Please submit - as soon as possible during the first semester - a simple copy of your final transcript of records (at the latest by 31 march for admission to a winter semester or 30 September for admission to a summer semester). It is not necessary to submit a certificate of de-enrollment from the previous university.

Alternatively, you can provide a certification from your previous university which states you have finished the program. This certification must include the date of your last exam and a very clear confirmation that you successfully passed the whole bachelor's program.

If you submit documents at a later date, please make sure you state the master's program and your applicant number (which you can find in your acceptance letter).

Bachelor's degree at Universität Hamburg

By paying a semester contribution, students automatically confirm enrollment for the upcoming semester and receive their semester documents (incl. online documents) from their previous bachelor's program. At the same time, they automatically register for the master's program they want to take, allowing them to register for courses in STiNE.

Once the bachelor's program has been successfully completed, the final conversion to the master's program takes place and students receive their semester documents for the following semester issued to the master's program (incl. BAföG and semester certificate in the STiNE account). Academic or exam offices in the schools notify us with the proper information.

Alternatively, you can provide a certification from your responsible department which states you have finished the program. This certification must include the date of your last exam and a very clear confirmation that you successfully passed the whole bachelor's program.

If you submitted your final record of grades for the bachelor’s program when you enrolled, you will automatically be enrolled in the master’s program and will receive proof of enrollment on the master’s program.
