Declaration of Waiver
If, after accepting an offer to study at Universität Hamburg, you would like to waive your claim, please sign and send the declaration of waiver as soon as possible. You do not need to provide reasons for the waiver.
You may waive your place until September 30 (enrollment for winter semester) respectively March 31 (enrollment for summer semester). After the start of the semester, it is only possible to waive your place if the semester contribution has not yet been paid.
Refund of semester contribution
If you have already transferred your semester contribution at the time you submit your waiver application, you may be eligible for a refund (minus €50 for processing costs). The following criteria need to be met:
- The semester has not yet commenced (declaration of waiver needs to be received before 1 October or 1 April accordingly)
- If you have already received the final semester documents, you have to send them back them by November 1 or April 30 at the latest. Please send them following address:

If the semester has already started, no refund is possible! In this case, you may apply for de-enrollment and get a refund of the part of the contribution used for the semester ticket by HVV. Please find more information about this option on the page about de-enrollment linked to above.
