Campus safety and security
The University of Hamburg highly values the safety and security of all of its members and guests. It strives to ensure that everyone at the University feels and is safe. In-house and external security personnel ensure security and safety in University buildings and on University premises. On holidays and when buildings are closed, security personnel make regular rounds and are also responsible for identity checks in buildings.

You can reach security outside of building opening hours between 10 pm and 6 am and all day on the weekends and on holidays at:
After-hours telephone service
See who is on call during closing hours. In case of malfunctions during the day, contact the service team responsible for your building.
Service team
If you notice anything suspicious, first contact the service team responsible. The service teams take care of repairs and maintenance. These can be reported using the damage and malfunctions form.
In the event of a theft, a break-in, or property damage
If University property is stolen or damaged, observe the proper procedures for theft, break-ins, and property damage.
If IT hardware is lost, report it using the online form or notify your respective IT service team.

- inform yourself about proper conduct in emergency situations
- use the main walkways on campus when it is dark, as these are lit in the evenings and at night
- lock your office when you leave it, even if you leave it only briefly
- store valuables in the appropriate storage spaces (most offices are equipped with standing cupboards and portable drawers with keys)
- ensure that hallway and connecting doors are not left open
- close the curtains, shades, or blinds in ground-floor offices to prevent people looking in when you are not using the room (if necessary, contact your building’s service team to have protective window screens installed)
- always close the windows when you leave your office.
