From 2016 to 2018, Universität Hamburg participated in the Diversity Audit conducted by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e.V.. As the first university in Hamburg, Universität Hamburg was awarded the “Vielfalt gestalten” certificate on 20 February 2019 in recognition of its successful implementation of diversity management to promote diversity at the university.

Universität Hamburg’s goal was, and continues to be, to establish diversity as a sustainable cross-cutting issue across the institution — enabling all students and staff to contribute their potential and have equal opportunities in education, employment, and career development.

As part of the audit process, the university developed a Diversity Concept (PDF, in German) outlining its strategic goals, key areas of action, and measures for implementation.
