What is PIASTA?
A program open to all students
PIASTA—Intercultural Living and Learning is a program run by the Department of International Affairs. Each semester, PIASTA tutors welcome all students to the University through the Welcome Week event and, with about 100 events, help to create a platform for intercultural exchange and transcultural life at Universität Hamburg.
PIASTA offers all Universität Hamburg students rooms and opportunities to
- get to know students from all over the world
- actively participate in the internationalization of degree programs and the campus
- view the world from different perspectives
- further develop your general study skills and intercultural sensitization.
We welcome all students regardless of nationality, (trans)cultural identity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, social background, religion, and ideology.
We warmly invite you to participate in our program events and wish you plenty of success and happiness at Universität Hamburg.
PIASTA helps international students succeed in their studies at Universität Hamburg and contributes to the internationalization of studying for all students at Universität Hamburg.
PIASTA is run by the Department of International Affairs and is tasked with meeting the goals of Internationalisierung@home and of the National Code of Conduct for German Universities Regarding International Students.

PIASTA program brochures
Until our last in-person semester in the summer of 2020, and before the digitalization of PIASTA services due to coronavirus measures, PIASTA published a program brochure every semester and distributed it on campus. Since 2020, the program has been available exclusively digitally via the newly developed booking app UHH Join. Here, you can browse through our program brochure archive and see what we previously offered.
The archive is currently being continuously supplemented.
