PIASTA registration and rules
General terms of participation
Give others a chance—cancel your registration in good time! Failing to cancel in time means that another student cannot take your place. We always strive to fill places and give interested students a chance to participate.
Our program is only available thanks to the outstanding commitment of your fellow students! Our events are organized by committed international tutors at Universität Hamburg. They are solely responsible for the organization of events, which are a highly valued contribution to intercultural life on campus. We ask for your understanding that we cannot offer sufficient places for all students at Universität Hamburg.
PIASTA : terms of participation
How can I register?
You can register online for all events that require registration. Simply select the event you are interested in and you will be shown a description of the event with the option of registering directly. Places are allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. Your registration is only complete after you have paid the registration fee!
How and when can I pay the registration fee?
You can pay the fee in advance by bank transfer. Important: Your registration is only complete after you have paid the registration fee!
This means you have to register first via our website. After the online registration, you have time to pay the fee until 7 days before the event. Please indicate the following in your bank transfer: Your Last Name, Your First Name, the number of the event, the title of the event (e.g.: Musterfrau, Johanna, 10008, The Women Who Shaped Hamburg’s History).
If it is not possible for you to pay via bank transfer, you can also come to our payment days and pay in cash. Payment days are on every Monday and Thursday from 12 noon to 4 pm at PIASTA, Rentzelstraße 17.
If you don’t pay the registration fee by 7 days before the event, your registration will be cancelled!
If you only register during the 6 days before the event, you can still pay via bank transfer or on a payment day. If you pay via bank transfer during this time span, please bring a confirmation of the bank transfer (either printed or as a screenshot).
Who can participate?
1. Our events target all (international and German) students and doctoral students enrolled at Universität Hamburg as well as those enrolled in the pre-semester preparatory course or Studienkolleg Hamburg.
2. Graduates are only allowed to participate in seminars and workshops relating to jobs, internships, and the first career steps in the first two years after graduating.
3. Students from other universities are welcome to attend the Intercultural PIASTA Evenings and to visit the Language Café, but unfortunately cannot participate in events that require registration. (The cultural events and leisure activities subsidized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as well as the free seminars and workshops are only open to students of Universität Hamburg. Given that demand exceeds the number of places available for your chosen event, we are unfortunately also unable to make any exceptions.)
4. HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU): HCU students are also able to register for the PIASTA Language Tandem Service.
How often can I participate?
For the summer semester 2020 there is no limitation in participation.
How can I cancel my registration?
If you cannot attend an event, please email us immediately to cancel your registration: piastaveranstaltungen"AT"uni-hamburg.de
If you cancel at short notice (less than 5 days before the event), we will not have time to invite someone else and your place will remain empty.
What happens if I fail to attend an event without being excused?
You will be barred from participating in future events.
If you fail to attend an event without being excused, we draw the conclusion that you're, starting now, no longer able to register for any of our events. Unexcused absences are unfair to others, as many more people are interested in attending the event than places are available.
What happens if I register using false or incorrect information?
If you enter incorrect or different email addresses, you won’t be able to receive important notifications. If your information is incorrect or incomplete, your registration will be canceled. If we determine that you have registered using the wrong name or wrong student ID number in order to sign up for more than the maximum of 4 events, you will not be allowed to register for any more of our events. We would consider this action as a deliberate attempt to deceive.
What happens with my registration details?
Your registration details will only be used by us to organize events (emails, e.g., advising of the meeting place), send you the newsletter, and evaluate events. They will not be passed on to third parties. When you register, you will receive our weekly newsletter with invitations to international events. If you no longer wish to receive this, please simply click here to unsubscribe.
