Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)
The Blended Intensive Programmes encourage innovative learning and teaching methods and offer students and teaching staff the opportunity to combine a short in-person group mobility (5–30 days) with a virtual phase (duration not specified).
At least 3 partner universities from a range of countries involved in the program will work together in a BIP to develop short, intensive, shared curricula and activities. The Blended Intensive Programmes are bound by the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) principles and the Erasmus+ regulations. Interinstitutional agreements and processes are required to conclude Learning Agreements and to issue transcripts of records. Credits earned must be accreditable.
Overview
| Target group: Students of the University of Hamburg who aim to complete their degree at the University of Hamburg (no visiting students or exchange students) are the target group.
| Funding installments: Additional to the accommodation subsidies of €70, reduced to €50 from day 15. Special support is available for students with fewer opportunities, e.g., students with children, students with disabilities and chronic illnesses, working students, and first-time academics. Subsidies are also offered for up to 6 additional travel days for green travel.
| Funding period: The stay must be for at least 5 days. The maximum funding period is 30 days. A virtual phase, used for shared online learning, is compulsory, but is not subject to specific time/duration requirements. No subsidy will be paid for the duration of the virtual phase.
| Subjects: There must be an Erasmus+ cooperation with the European university in the relevant subject. The workload for students is equivalent to at least 3 ECTS credits.
| Application deadline: There is no fixed application deadline. Requests must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the trip is due to begin.
Information on applying
Applications may only be submitted from Universität Hamburg email addresses (e.g., xxx@studium.uni-hamburg.de). Your application cannot be processed if you do not enter an official University of Hamburg email address.
Send an initial email to erasmus.coordination"AT"uni-hamburg.de providing information about the BIP you wish to participate in, so we can assess whether sufficient financial resources are available and set such funds aside. Apply for the BIP at the same time (usually directly to the partner university). Previous experience suggests the following documents are required:
- letter of motivation
- curriculum vitae
- transcript of records or current STiNE account statement
- proof of your proficiency level in the language of instruction
- proof of enrollment
The partner university may require additional application documents.
Forms to upload or submit if your Erasmus+ application is successful
Applicants must use the forms provided by the Department of International Affairs.
Students should note that the Grant Agreement will only be made available after the Learning Agreement Part I has been provided. You must sign the original Grant Agreement before your stay and submit it to the Erasmus Team.
Documents, deadlines, and formal requirements while abroad
Before your stay
-
Your University of Hamburg enrollment certificate covering the period of your stay abroad will also be uploaded to the database.
-
The Digital Learning Agreements for Studies Part I: Before the mobility must be completely filled out and signed by all 3 parties to the Learning Agreement for Studies before the start of your trip abroad (please note the Learning Agreement for Studies guide).
-
Green Travel: If you undertake green travel, meaning you plan to use sustainable transportation (train, bus, car-share, bicycle, walking) for more than 50% of the journey, you can apply for Green Travel. If your journey is extended as a result of choosing sustainable means of transport, you can receive funding for up to 6 additional travel days. A survey will be conducted in your workflow. If Green Travel applies to you, print out the declaration in your workflow, sign it, and then upload the signed document.
-
Supplement “expensive travel”: Individuals who receive a Green Travel top-up may also apply for an additional grant for “expensive travel.” This can be applied for where the travel allowance provided according to distance category falls below 70% of the actual travel costs for sustainable travel. In this case, participants will receive 80% of the actual costs for sustainable travel.
The applicant must justify the claim for “expensive travel” and get it approved by the national agency. This requires a certain lead time. We therefore ask you to submit documentation proving the increased travel costs at least one month before departure to erasmus.coordination"AT"uni-hamburg.de.
-
Top-ups for students with fewer opportunities: Find details on the various supplements in our Infosheet on Additional Funding.
- If you are eligible for one of the following supplements, confirm this in a sworn declaration. You will then receive €100 or €150 in addition to your regular monthly grant (depending on the duration of the stay). Even if you meet the criteria for several top-ups, you will only receive one subsidy:
- students with children abroad
- students with a degree of disability of 20 (GdB 20) or over
- students with chronic illnesses
- students who are the first academics in their family
- working students who have to interrupt or terminate their gainful employment due to their semester abroad
- Submitting the Grant Agreements for Studies: The Grant Agreement for Studies is generated via Mobility Online. The document must be signed by you and sent as a scan by email to erasmus.coordination@uni-hamburg.de.
- Before leaving to study abroad, Erasmus students may take an OLS language assessment test in the language of instruction at their Erasmus+ host university. See Erasmus+ Online Language Support (OLS). for more information.
During your stay
- At the end of your short-term mobility, have the host university confirm the start and end dates of your stay on the Confirmation of Stay form (Part I+II). Then upload the document to your workflow.
After your stay
- Fill in the online EUSurvey on your computer. We will send you the link to the survey immediately after your return. If your coursework has not yet been recognized when you fill in the online EUSurvey, you will receive another online survey (about recognition of credits) to fill in 45 days later.
- Upload your Transcript of Records from your host university to the database as soon as you receive it.
As soon as you have submitted all required documents and filled in the online EUSurvey, your second grant installment will be paid.
Application requirements
- Motivation
- You must be enrolled in a degree program at the University (no exchange students).

- proficiency in course and local language
- motivation
The grant amount is calculated on a daily basis, subject to approval from the National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation at the DAAD.
