If you are facing a situation that places a family member in need of care or nursing and forces you to take on the role of caregiver, you should first contact your direct superior in order to discuss the necessary measures and steps.

Further assistance is available at:

• Department 6 Human Resources (leave of absence, special leave, exemption, home care leave in accordance with the Pflegezeitgesetz (home care leave act), flexible working hours, home office, ZAF (center for continuing qualification) information and courses, etc.
• Occupational health services (website in German only) of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (medical advising and check-ups for all city staff members coping with the additional burden of caregiving).
