We are pleased to invite you to a Special University of Hamburg and DESY Colloquium.
This event marks a special occasion – Prof. Jan Louis will be awarded the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Senior Professorship in recognition of his innovative teaching concepts in the field of physics.
Agenda:
- Welcome and Greetings: Prof. Beate Heinemann (DESY), Dr. Rolf Greve (FHH), Prof. Thilo Böhmann (UHH)
- Award Ceremony hosted by the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Foundation
- Colloquium talk: "Strings, the Swampland and Primordial Black Holes" by Prof. Dieter Lüst (Max Planck Institute for Physics, Garching/Munich)
Abstract: This colloquium introduces quantum gravity and its realization in string theory. While string theory predicts a vast landscape of consistent vacua, an even larger set of low-energy theories – the so-called swampland – is incompatible with key principles of quantum gravity. The talk highlights some of these swampland principles and explores their implications for dark energy, dark matter, and primordial black holes.
The program will be followed by a reception in the DESY canteen extension starting at around 18:00.
