Semester public transport pass
Students enrolled at Universität Hamburg will receive a semester public transport pass from the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV) upon paying their semester contribution. Passes ensure mobility throughout the whole semester with the following sparks:
- validity all around the clock within the HVV network
- lesser costs than comparable HVV ticket subscriptions for trainees and students
- free transport of up to three children aged 6–14
Semester public transport passes are non-transferable.
Reimbursement through the hardship fund
In case you have no use for the semester public transport pass, e.g., because you are living right next to the University or will be spending a semester abroad, you can apply to be reimbursed for the transport pass costs. Your application for a semester public transport pass reimbursement will be processed by Studierendenwerk (student services). Please visit their webpages for further information on reimbursement issues.
Reimbursement upon withdrawal from the University
If you are no longer enrolled at Universität Hamburg, you may apply for a semester public transport pass reimbursement at the S-Bahn Service Center of the Hamburg Transport Association (Hamburger Verkehrsverbund, HVV). Please note that you must present proof of your withdrawal from the University and submit a copy thereof together with the original semester public transport pass at the Service Center in order to be partially reimbursed for the remaining service period.

Reimbursement for semester public transport pass contribution
If you just enrolled at Universität Hamburg and receive your semester public transport pass after the official start of the lecture period, you may be eligible to be reimbursed for transportation costs arising in the period up until your semester public transport pass arrived. For reimbursement you need certification issued by Universität Hamburg stating that the university is responsible for the fact that you received the ticket late. This can be obtained from the student affairs team.
Note: Reimbursement is not possible for PhD students enrolling during the semester.
Temporary tickets issued before the official semester kickoff, i.e., either 1 October or 1 April, do not qualify for reimbursement.
IMPORTANT: the Service Center staff only accepts personalized weekly or monthly tickets with a passport photo! Single tickets will not be reimbursed.
Please remember to bring a passport photo. As soon as you have received your provisional semester public transport pass, you can apply for reimbursement. In order to apply for reimbursement, please visit the S-Bahn / Deutsche Bahn Service Center and submit your personalized weekly or monthly ticket together with your provisional semester transport pass.

Students who purchase a personalized online ticket in accordance with the above criteria should contact the Hochbahn online shop directly for reimbursement at: onlineshop"AT"hochbahn.de
Once you have shown your semester tickets, you can simply scan your official semester public transport pass and email it to the Hochbahn onlineshop at the above email address. You must include the email address used to purchase the online ticket.
Public transpost pass lost
If your public transport pass has been lost or stolen, you can request a reissue. Just send an email via www.uni-hamburg.de/studium, making sure to mention if your ticket was stolen. Reissue of your public transport pass carries a fee of 10 Euro. Currently, the fee is suspended due to pandemic conditions.
