The University of Hamburg sees itself as a family-friendly higher education institution. We aim to make combining family life with academic studies or a career a normal part of university culture. Having a family should be considered an asset, not a problem.

Audit successfully completed
For this reason, the University applied for the family-friendly university audit in Sum-mer 2010 and successfully completed the auditing process.
The audit familiengerechte hochschule certificate was awarded on 30 August 2010.
One result of the au-dit was the creation of the Family Office at the University of Hamburg. The Family Of-fice is a central service point for all questions about combining study, work, and family ob-ligations.
The Equal Opportuni-ties Office is responsible for implementing the planned measures to make the Universi-ty of Hamburg more family-friendly.

The audit certifies that the University of Hamburg offers a broad range of services and structures that allow all staff and students to better balance family and care duties with the challenges of a career, academia, and studying. In 2010, the University of Hamburg was successfully audited for the first time. As part of the regular cycle of quality assurance, the Family Office was established in 2012. The University of Hamburg has held family-friendly higher education audit certification since 2020.
