Central Student Exchange Program
Berkeley, Sydney, Tokyo: 80 university places worldwide
Universität Hamburg offers interdisciplinary exchange programs with partner universities in Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Poland, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the USA. University places are allocated centrally by the Department of International Affairs via a selection procedure. Exchange students receive administrative support both from the Department of International Affairs as well as from the host university. The exchange includes exemption from tuition fees at the partner university. Depending on the specific university, it may also include a guaranteed place in a dorm room or a partial scholarship. In most cases, these university places can be combined with a Hamburglobal grant. It is possible to attend a partner university for 1 or 2 semesters.
Only Universität Hamburg students enrolled with the objective of earning a degree from Universität Hamburg may apply (i.e., no visiting or exchange students). There are 2 application rounds each year, one in May and one in November, with different partner universities to choose from in each round.
+++Global Travel Warning: Suspension of Funding for Affected Countries+++
Currently, central exchange stays are not allowed in countries that are subject to a travel warning issued by the Federal Foreign Office and/or that have been designated as a high-risk area by the Robert Koch Institute. Exchange will only be possible again once the travel warning for that country has been lifted. Please contact us if you are planning to travel to a country that is not on the Robert Koch Institute’s list of high-risk areas but is subject to a travel warning.
