For applicants
A tailwind for your studies
Are you a prospective student with good grades and an offer of a place at the University of Hamburg? Are you also committed to volunteer work? And are you facing particular challenges that make it difficult for you to complete your studies successfully? The University of Hamburg takes the combination of these 3 factors into consideration when awarding Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship) grants. It also rewards your demonstrable interest in sustainability.
Deutschlandstipendium grants are equally funded by the Federal Government, the Federal State of Hamburg, and private sponsors. The latter group includes companies, foundations, associations, alumni of the University of Hamburg, and individuals. Their financial assistance ensures that you can focus entirely on your studies.
Deutschlandstipendium sponsors generally like to get to know the scholarship holders they fund. We expect you to engage in a dialogue with them and participate in events and activities which the University of Hamburg organizes for your grant program every semester.
This has a great advantage for you: It introduces you into a constantly growing network of Deutschlandstipendium recipients, giving you many new contacts, and access to interesting events. As such, the scholarship program offers far more than financial assistance.
Deadline for applicants
Applications for the Deutschlandstipendium grant (payable from January to December 2025) open on 15 October 2024 and close on 5 November 2024. Only University of Hamburg students can apply.
Podcast production Engagiert für unsere Zukunft: hidden talents
After the Deutschlandstipendium symposium "Engagiert für unsere Zukunft" (Committed to our Future) held at the Jupiter Campus, scholarship holders Jennifer Spiesen, Laurin Wesselkamp, and Vivien Lloyd undertook to produce a little podcast series. Sound engineer Jennifer used small lapel microphones to record the lectures delivered at the Jupiter Campus that day. Having taken care of the audio editing—a compact task thanks to the sophisticated Pecha Kucha format, which ensures that the lectures were perfectly prepared and presented—they all met up at Superhearo Audio, Jennifer’s workplace. Laurin had experience recording YouTube videos, while Vivien is a singer from a musical family. The 3 wrote the narration scripts for the podcast together, then Laurin and Vivien, who met for the first time that day, stepped into the recording booth together and got talking. Their dialogue turned out amazing: It sounded like they’d known each other for years and had plenty of moderating experience under their belts. They also needed a musical jingle for their podcast, so Laurin’s musical talent came in handy. Jennifer discovered the perfect song on his SoundCloud platform and, with his permission, used it to put together a handful of music segments for their podcast. The 3 scholarship holders enjoyed the process so much that they are tempted to turn the podcast into a full series. Who knows, they might get a chance!
