Reenrolling
If you need to take a leave of absence from your studies for a valid reason, you may apply to reenroll in the program no later than the second semester following the resolution of the reason to take leave.
Valid reasons pursuant to Section 3 subsection 3 of the enrollment regulations (PDF) are:
- serious illness
- caring for a child (up to age 3)
- caring for relatives (up to 3 years)
- social hardship
- voluntary social year or voluntary environmental year
- working as an aid worker (at least 2 years)
- mandatory service (up to 3 years)
- temporary continuation of studies at a foreign university
To apply for reenrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program, submit the following documents:
- informal request explaining why you were unable to continue your studies
- supporting documentation for the reasons listed (e.g., medical certificate, child’s birth certificate)
You can submit your application at any time, regardless of the regular application deadlines, by using the reenrollment application form.
We recommend that you submit your application to the Application, Admissions, and Student Affairs Team no later than 4 weeks before the start of the semester. This will ensure that you receive your semester materials in time for the start of the semester. When planning, also take into account the registration periods for the upcoming semester.
To enroll, you must either be insured through a public health insurance provider or obtain an exemption from a public health insurance provider. Read our information on health insurance.
Special case: Law Staatsexamen
After submitting the abovementioned documents (1 and 2), you will receive a form (tracking sheet) that you must have filled out by the Faculty of Law and then submit to the Application, Admissions, and Student Affairs Team. The printed form serves as a clearance certificate. Only then can reenrollment take place.
Consequently, the recommended lead time for the law degree program is also extended.
