Semester contribution winter semester 2026/27

The semester contribution for the winter semester 2026/27 is €402.

You must pay the semester contribution even if you are on academic leave. If you apply for multiple consecutive semesters of academic leave, you pay a reduced contribution of €352. Students enrolled in a special program (excluding those in the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg), also pay the reduced amount of €352.

A sample payment form and the contribution notification are usually available in your STiNE account under ‘Documents’

  • from mid-August for the winter semester and
  • from mid-February for the summer semester.

You can usually find a sample payment form for a winter semester between the end of July and end of August and for a summer semester between mid-January and mid-February in your STiNE account under "Documents". 

We have simplified the payment process for you. You will now find a QR code next to the sample payment slip, which allows you to pay the semester contribution directly via your banking app. To do so, open your banking app and select the “Scan invoice/QR code” option under bank transfers. Your payment details will then be entered automatically. We recommend using this option, as it helps prevent typing errors that could result in your payment not being automatically assigned to your STiNE account. Nevertheless, please check that all details are correct after scanning the code.

You can also use the information below to pay. However, if you are not sure whether you belong to one of the groups mentioned above that pay a reduced semester contribution, it is better to wait until the sample payment form is available.

Please do not transfer the semester contribution before the amount for the respective semester has been published on this website, as the semester contribution may change.

Breakdown of the semester contribution for the winter semester 2026/27

The semester contribution consists of the "actual" contribution of €352 (in accordance with the 'Beitragsordnung der Studierendenschaft der Universität Hamburg' in its current version). It is composed of the following components:

  • €19.60 in accordance with constitutional student body regulations
  • €226.80 for the semester public transport pass
  • €4.60 for the semester public transport pass hardship fund
  • €101 for the Studierendenwerk (in accordance with the Beitragsordnung des Studierendenwerks Hamburg

and an administrative fee of €50.

A total of €402 is therefore required for re-enrollment or enrollment for the winter semester 2026/27.

  • €19.60 in accordance with constitutional student body regulations
  • €208.80 for the semester public transport pass
  • €4.60 for the semester public transport pass hardship fund

and an administrative fee of €50.

A total of €384 is therefore required for re-enrollment or enrollment for the summer semester 2026.

  • €18.60 in accordance with constitutional student body regulations
  • €208.80 for the semester public transport pass
  • €5.60 for the semester public transport pass hardship fund

and an administrative fee of €50.

A total of €384 is therefore required for re-enrollment or enrollment for the winter semester 2025/26.

  • €5.60 for the semester public transport pass hardship fund

and an administrative fee of €50.

A total of €343 is therefore required for re-enrollment or enrollment for the summer semester 2025.

Enrollment

If you are a new student enrolling at Universität Hamburg, please pay the contribution as soon as you have received your preliminary semester documents.

Re-enrollment / payment deadlines

If you are re-enrolling for the upcoming semester, please pay your contribution in advance as follows:

  • For a summer semester: by 1 April at the latest
  • For a winter semester: by 1 October at the latest

In order to receive both your semester certificates and your semester transport pass by the start of the semester, your contribution must be paid in full at least 4 weeks before the above-mentioned deadline.

Please note:

Failure to observe re-enrollment deadlines will result in forced withdrawal from the university.
If students do not wish to withdraw from their program but have missed the re-enrollment deadline, they can undertake a late enrollment. Please note that late enrollments incur a late fee.

If your address has changed or if you want to take academic leave, please notify us at least 14 days before payment is due so that we can process your documents properly.

These deadlines do not apply to students enrolling for the first time!

Important information on international bank transfers

Please note that your bank may charge a fee for international transfers. Banks usually deduct this fee from the amount transferred, which means that Universität Hamburg may not receive the semester contribution in full.

Please check with your bank to find out whether it charges fees for international transfers and adjust the amount accordingly.
