Program description
The School of Economics and Social Sciences at Universität Hamburg
offers a two-year, English-language master’s program in politics,
economics, and philosophy commencing in the winter semester of each
year. The program focuses on the analysis of individual and collective
decision-making from the perspective of the three disciplines. Students
learn how to solve problems in diverse areas such as politics, corporate
governance, and international relations by applying insights from
politics, economics, and philosophy. This is a rigorous,
research-oriented program focusing on modern theories and methods in
political science, economics, and philosophy.
Career prospects
The program is designed for students who intend to pursue a PhD in one
of the program’s three disciplines and who want to conduct
interdisciplinary research. It also targets students who wish to pursue
careers in the public and private sectors or in national and
international organizations.
Program structure
In the first three semesters of this two-year program, students attend courses in political science, economics, and philosophy as well as interdisciplinary seminars in economics and political science, or economics and philosophy. The fourth semester is devoted to the master’s thesis.
