About us

Commissioned by Universität Hamburg, the adult education center Hamburg (Volkshochschule, VHS) offers on-campus courses in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, Danish, English, French, Modern HebrewNEW (Ivrit), Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Dutch, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Schwedish, Spanish, UkrainianNEW, German Sign Language and German as a Foreign Language. Especially developed for students our courses impart general language skills on three levels of foreign language proficiency: A1, A2 and B1. These correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) developed by the Council of Europe.

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages—CEFR

Based on a communicative, hands-on approach to teaching and learning foreign languages, the CEFR provides a comprehensive description of required language knowledge, skills, and application on 6 levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 und C2).
