To strengthen international research collaboration and increase internationality and mobility in teaching and studies, the University of Hamburg is establishing exclusive strategic partnerships, for example, with
- Stellenbosch University in South Africa,
- Macquarie University in Australia,
- Indiana University in the USA,
- Kyoto University in Japan,
- Lund University in Sweden, and the
- National Taiwan University.
In addition, the University of Hamburg has networks at faculty level with over 300 partner universities around the world.
Research in exchange
Excellent research involves the ongoing search for new ideas from outside the institution and dynamic exchange in global networks. This is why the University of Hamburg stands for openness and integration on campus.
In addition to excellent conditions for research and teaching activities and an attractive location in the heart of Hamburg, the University offers a welcome service for international academics. This lends individual support in organizing a successful stay at our University.

The international approach to education, studying, research, and administration is one of the University of Hamburg’s strategic focuses. The approach comprises numerous different measures, based on recommendations from the Internationalisierung der Hochschulen audit conducted in 2010/11 by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). The advances and further development of the process was successfully reaudited in 2015–2018.
