We issue language certificates if required for: Stays abroad (e.g. ERASMUS, DAAD and other exchange programmes), Master's applications, job applications and the like, as well as for law students who wish to attend foreign language courses offered by the Faculty of Law.

You should take a written and an oral examination.

The written exams in the winter semester 2025/26 will take place on 116.12.25, 07.01.26, 13.01.26 & 20.01.26 at the University of Hamburg (Von Melle Park 5). 

The tests may be taken once per semester.
Please note: To take the test, you must log in to OpenOLAT with your UHH ID. If you do not yet have an ID, please contact us at testing.sz"AT"uni-hamburg.de.

After the written exam, you should contact Dr. Anikó Brandt (Spanish: aniko.brandt"AT"uni-hamburg.de) to make an appointment for an oral exam (Zoom or face-to-face).

However, there are alternatives to the exams if you have already attended our courses:
For Erasmus certificates:
1 completed B2 or C1 course (grade: 1.7, 1.3 or 1.0)
1 completed B2 or C1 course + written confirmation of the level from the lecturer
For DAAD certificates:
2 completed B2 or C1 courses (grade: 1.7, 1.3 or 1.0)
2 completed B2 or C1 courses + written confirmation of the level from the lecturer
Send this information (transcript with course grades or lecturer confirmation) to Verónica Guijas Gento if you wish to use the alternative.

All others should take the written and oral exam.

What is DELE?

The DELE diploma (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is an internationally recognized certification of Spanish language proficiency. It is awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport. The test is developed and assessed by the University of Salamanca in Spain.

The DELE diploma provides proof of Spanish language skills for studying in Spanish, both in Spain and abroad.

The fee for the DELE diploma varies according to the exam level:

• A1 — 138 EUR / 10% discount for students: 124.20 EUR 
• A2 — 150 EUR / 10% discount for students: 135 EUR 
• B1 — 164 EUR / 10% discount for students: 147.60 EUR 
• B2 — 230 EUR / 10% discount for students: 207.00 EUR 
• C1 — 244 EUR / 10% discount for students: 219.60 EUR 
• C2 — 250 EUR / 10% discount for students: 225.00 EUR

Please register directly with the Instituto Cervantes Hamburg. Note that the exam must also be taken at this location; changing the exam center later is not possible.

Results and Certificate

Please be aware that results are typically available approximately three months after the exam. Results and certificates can be viewed and downloaded from the DELE certificate portal. Paper certificates are no longer issued. The DELE certificate is valid indefinitely.

 

Scope and Procedure of the Exam

The DELE exam is offered at six different levels. Details of the exam process are outlined above.

The exam assesses participants' reading and listening comprehension, as well as their written and oral communication skills.

The structure of the exam varies by level:

A1 — Reading comprehension (45 min), listening comprehension (20 min), written expression (25 min), oral expression (10 min + 10 min preparation) 

A2 — Reading comprehension (60 min), listening comprehension (40 min), written expression (45 min), oral expression (12 min + 12 min preparation) 

B1 — Reading comprehension (70 min), listening comprehension (40 min), written expression (40 min), oral expression (15 min + 15 min preparation) 

B2 — Reading comprehension (70 min), listening comprehension (40 min), written expression (80 min), oral expression (20 min + 20 min preparation) 

C1 — Reading comprehension and language use (90 min), listening comprehension and language use (50 min), integrated skills (listening, reading, written interaction) (80 min), oral expression (20 min + 20 min preparation) 

C2 — Language use, reading, and listening comprehension (90 min), integrated skills (listening, reading, written interaction) (150 min), oral expression (20 min + 30 min preparation)
