The University of Hamburg is a place where people from different backgrounds and with different experiences, perspectives, and plans for life come together. It is precisely this diversity that defines our University, enriching our interactions, our teaching, and our research.

Together, we are showing what unites us: our diversity

With the "Our Uni is Colorful“ campaign, we are sending a clear message of openness, diversity, and unity for Winter Semester 2026/27. The rainbow symbolizes a university that welcomes and values everyone regardless of their origins, background, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or other personal characteristics.

Our University is made special by all the people who study, teach, conduct research, work, and shape their daily lives together here. Because diversity is more than just a slogan. We live it in our daily interactions—our different perspectives, in our mutual respect, and in our willingness to stand up for one another. After all, a university is strong when everyone belongs.

Many portraits, one shared image

At the 2026 campus fest, students and staff posed for photos. The portraits were then used to create the overall image for "Our Uni is Colorful".

64 shirts for the campaign

There were 64 T-shirts from the collection for the photo shoot. Participants got to take one home after the shoot.

Large crowd at the Audimax

The event generated a lot of interest at the campus fest. Long lines kept forming in front of the Audimax for the shoot.

Support and advice on diversity and equity

Equity Unit

The Equity Unit is the first point of contact at the University of Hamburg for questions regarding diversity. Here, all members of the University of Hamburg can find information and counseling services on gender equity and diversity, as well as information on funding opportunities.

Family Office

The Family Office at the University of Hamburg helps students balance family life with their career and studies.

Office for Students with Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses

The Office for Students with Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses is the University of Hamburg’s central point of contact for prospective students, applicants, current students, and doctoral candidates (who are not members of the academic staff) with long-term disabilities—such as physical or mental illnesses; mobility, hearing, vision, or speech impairments; specific learning disabilities; or autism spectrum disorders.

Antidiscrimination Center

The Antidiscrimination Center provides counseling to students and employees of the University of Hamburg in cases of discrimination. The center offers an open office hour every first and third Wednesday of the month from 1 to 2 pm in the Tiny House on the University of Hamburg campus.

Center for Gender and Diversity

The Center for Gender and Diversity (in German only) is an interuniversity institution responsible for coordinating the certificates for gender awareness and for intersectionality and diversity, for strengthening and raising the profile of research on gender and diversity, and for fostering networking and knowledge exchange.
