Dr. Jara Schmidt and Dr. Jule Thiemann from the Institute for German Language and Literature at the University of Hamburg are guests in the third episode of the Gleichheitszeichen podcast from the Equal Opportunity Unit. They both recently initiated and organized the interdisciplinary conference Reclaim! Postmigrantische Diskurse der Aneignung on postmigrant discourses of appropriation.
The conference focused on current critical voices from academia and culture that speak out in favor of diversity and against discrimination based on gender, race, origin, religion, queerness, appearance, disability, or class and which can also be understood as reactions to and actions against social standardization and increasing right-wing populism and pressure in Germany and Europe as a whole.
In the podcast, literary scholars Dr. Jara Schmidt and Dr. Jule Thiemann explain in more detail what postmigration means, what role postmigration plays in academia, and how their project will continue after the conference.
