Collective Responsibility project
Collective Responsibility. Combating Racism at Universities
Combating racism is a central field of action in the diversity debate in higher education. In March 2021, the Head Office for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Humanities, in collaboration with the faculty’s equal opportunity representative and the Equity Unit, introduced the project Collective Responsibility. Combating Racism at Universities. The project takes up this highly socially relevant issue, and we are looking for members of all status groups at the faculty to contribute ideas. There will be a range of events to create a space for reflection on and discussion of institutional and structural racism in higher education. We aim to critically reflect how history has shaped the University of Hamburg in this respect so we can establish and promote diversity measures that help us prevent and combat racist discrimination.

Events
The project kicked off on 1 March 2021 with the Collective Responsibility Round Table, which was open to anyone who was interested in attending. The round table has since evolved into a regular format. The program includes guest lectures by experts from the higher education sector who provide insight into their work and successful examples of combating structural racism that help develop and implement effective equity measures.
The next Collective Responsibility Round Table takes place in person on 20 May 2025, 4–6 pm. All are welcome to attend. Simply email diversity"AT"uni-hamburg.de for further details about the venue.
