This year the prize for outstanding, visible, and sustainable activities promoting equal opportunity measures at the University of Hamburg will be awarded to "Dreh meinen Film" and "Outstanding Women of International, European and Constitutional Law."
"Dreh meinen Film" is a project by the Chemistry School Laboratory Molecules & Schools and the Excellence Cluster CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter. As part of the project, student teams produce short documentary films about female scientists in the Excellence Cluster and their research. This gives participants authentic insights into scientific career paths of women and allows them to experience role models in their daily work. It is an innovative, intersectional, and interdisciplinary equality project aimed at promoting scientific careers among girls aged 12 to 15 from non-academic family backgrounds. The project fosters equal opportunities in the natural sciences and aims to break gender-stereotypical career choices. It helps to reduce barriers and stereotypical perceptions of women in science through female role models.
"Outstanding Women of International, European and Constitutional Law" is a project by the Faculty of Law. It involves a calendar project and a blog symposium featuring brief biographies of outstanding women in the fields of national, European, and international law. The profiles include women with and without experiences of racism, women from diverse geographical and social backgrounds, different ages, sexual orientations, educational backgrounds, and socializations, as well as women who have worked in different legal systems. The project promotes equality and diversity in the male-dominated legal field through innovative science communication. It advocates against the underrepresentation of women and increases the visibility of their outstanding contributions in legal science (considering diversity aspects): "Hidden Women" as role models. The project has a significant impact and high demand within the faculty, at UHH, and nationwide, holding "blueprint potential" for other fields.
The Equal Opportunity Prize of the University of Hamburg is awarded annually for outstanding, visible, and sustainable activities promoting equal opportunity measures in the areas of gender equality, diversity, and family/care at the University.
