The University of Hamburg is committed to fostering a diverse, discrimination-free environment for studying and working. In recognition of the International Day of Action against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia, we send a clear message in support of respect, diversity, and solidarity—and of a respectful way of treating one another.
As a reminder, 17 May 1990: On this day, the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from its diagnostic classification. Since then, 17 May has symbolically stood against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Queer- and transphobic discrimination and attacks continue to shape the everyday realities of many LGBTIQA* people. The University of Hamburg opposes discrimination and exclusion and sends a clear message against queer hostility, in favor of diversity and human rights.
