The Warburg Institute researches the continuing influence of classical antiquity in art history, the history of philosophy and literature, the history of political ideas, and the history of the natural sciences. Other research interests include Islam as a vehicle of ancient thought and historical musicology.
The fellowships funded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg promote scholarly projects requiring study and research at the University of London’s Warburg Institute. They are granted to doctoral students and individuals working on their Habilitation (postdoctoral qualification) at Universität Hamburg. Projects with a broad cultural studies approach are particularly encouraged.
Funding duration and amount
Funding is initially granted for a period of twelve months; extension for a second year is possible. Monthly funding of up to €1,374 is available. The travel expenses to/from the University of London as well as the tuition fees will also be reimbursed.
