Program description
The part-time law degree provides students with in-depth knowledge of European commercial law. The program is offered jointly by the Faculty of Law at Universität Hamburg and the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg. Professionals are able to participate in a top-quality continuing education program with practical relevance that allows them to combine family life with a successful career. Students acquire a thorough understanding of the legal framework of the European market and familiarity with the fields of European law most relevant to commerce, for example, competition law, corporate law, labor and social law, capital market and taxation law. Emphasis is also placed on the economic aspects of the integration process. Students also take courses in legal English, and hone their work techniques and negotiation skills.
Career prospects
Graduates acquire a Master of Laws alongside their jobs. They extend their specialist knowledge and benefit from gaining familiarity with European law, a knowledge of which is growing increasingly important. Besides a career in research, students are also qualified for positions with the civil service.

This part-time program consists of 26 weekend blocks completed over the course of the first three semesters. Students must take six required and three elective modules.
- Semester 1: Three modules impart basic knowledge. Students must take the three required modules on the legal framework of the internal market, the economics of European integration, and work in international context.
