Program description
The field of information systems brings together aspects of information technology, communication, and business administration. The MSc in Information Systems is therefore offered jointly by the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences. As well as being both research-oriented and interdisciplinary, the program tackles practice-related questions and issues in the field. Students deepen their knowledge and capabilities in information systems, economics, and informatics, for example, in the areas of application development, software technology, operating systems, databases, Internet technologies, e-business, and process modeling.
They learn to classify relevant theories and concepts, apply tools and methods, analyze and solve practical problems, and act responsibly with regard to the impact of technological developments.
Career prospects
Graduates plan, develop, implement, and maintain information and communication systems. To this end they analyze the internal organizational structures of companies and administrations. Career opportunities exist at companies developing, supporting, and operating IT-based corporate communication and information systems. Graduates are also employed wherever IT systems are used to complete processes, for example, in companies and public administrations. Graduates are also qualified to pursue an academic career (doctorate, teaching).
Program structure
The program runs over four semesters. Students attend classes in Semesters 1–3 and complete their master’s thesis in Semester 4.
Given that the subject is closely related to business administration and informatics, all three areas (information systems, informatics, business administration) are covered.
Students choose between two specializations:
- computational logistics
- IT system development and management
