Have you ever asked yourself what “University of Excellence” means, what it requires of Universität Hamburg, and what the University spend its Excellence funding on? A short film provides the most important answers.
Funding for far more than 500 people and projects, 12 additional professors, new centers dedicated to sustainability, digitalization, and knowledge exchange— Universität Hamburg has accomplished a great deal halfway through its funding period as a University of Excellence.
University of Excellence—that is not a marketing slogan! It is a distinction that the Federal and State Governments have awarded to only a few German universities. The title entails annual funding and an obligation to use the money for pledges from the application phase.
Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence offers a broad range of opportunities, from its new liberal arts and sciences degree program; the significantly expanded Studium Generale; new institutions that further develop topics of major social importance such as digitalization, sustainability, and knowledge exchange; and greater opportunities to go abroad and to invite visiting scholars.
Its 4 clusters of excellence cover climate protection, manuscript research, astro- and particle physics as well as the properties of matter, here and abroad, firmly establishing Hamburg’s reputation as an outstanding center of research and the University’s reputation as a place of internationally competitive top research.
