Excellence in university teaching is recognized and honored in Hamburg. On 7 July 2026 the Hamburg Teaching Prize was presented by the the Ministry of Science, Research and Equalities for the 18th time. Nine University of Hamburg faculty members were also honored at the State and University Library Carl von Ossietzky.
Like the University of Hamburg Teaching Award, the Hamburg Teaching Prize recognizes each year both exceptional dedication to teaching and innovative teaching methods and instructional approaches. Nominations for the awards—each endowed with €10,000 by the Ministry of Science, Research and Equalities—come from students. Faculty-level juries discuss the nominations and select the winner.
Prof. Dr. Natalia Filatkina, vice president for studies and teaching at the University of Hamburg: “I am delighted that, once again this year, outstanding instructors from all faculties at the University of Hamburg are being honored with the Hamburg Teaching Prize. The award-winning courses exemplify the great dedication, academic excellence, and pedagogical creativity with which our faculty members guide their students and inspire them to pursue scholarship. They create learning environments where knowledge is imparted, curiosity is sparked, and critical thinking is fostered. My heartfelt congratulations go out to all the award recipients—and my sincere thanks for their extraordinary dedication to teaching, which has a lasting impact on our university.”
