The Academic Senate of the University of Hamburg has confirmed Dr Uta Wagner in her position as Deputy Equal Oppportunity Commissioner for the academic sector at the University of Hamburg. The vote was taken by acclamation, underscoring the broad confidence in her work and her commitment to equal opportunity policy at the university.
The educational scientist, who was first elected to office in 2023, will begin her second term in April. Uta Wagner is passionately committed to promoting equal opportunities and eliminating discrimination at the university. Especially in times of increasing social challenges, she sees her task as continuing to promote gender, family and diversity-friendly study and working conditions. She said before the Academic Senate:
"Equal opportunity commissioners and other actors who work to promote equity are being threatened and attacked, and symbols such as the Progressive Pride flag are being destroyed. The situation in Hamburg may seem somewhat better than in other federal states, but here too we should not take the achievements in the areas of gender equality, diversity and balance between work/study and family life in recent years and decades for granted, but rather defend them and show solidarity with those affected."
In its vote, the Academic Senate emphasised the important role of equal opportunity work for the further development of the university.
The university's equal opportunity commissioner, Dr Angelika Paschke-Kratzin, and the Equity Unit team look forward to continuing their work together.
