Wir wollen’s wissen is one of many formats within the University of Hamburg’s Excellence Strategy that aims to foster dialogue between the University and the public and to open the University to the city. For the first time, the format is being extended from one week to two: students in the ninth grade and up will have an opportunity to hear talks in the fields of biology, chemistry, the geosciences, history, informatics, mathematics, politics, society, economics, philosophy, physics, psychology, religion, and languages in an unusual setting.
Between the 19 and 23 January and 2 and 6 February 2026, roughly 60 speakers will make 188 visits to schools to talk about their current research. Schools can participate for free and teachers can easily book talks on the University website. There are, however, a few talks suitable for seventh and eighth graders. These are marked accordingly in the program.
The offer has been running since 2018 and involves University researchers, DESY, the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorfm and the Leibniz Institute of Virology.
The program is funded through the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.
