Open house for technology platformsLarge Equipment and Facilities at Universität Hamburg

9 January 2024, by Christina Krätzig

The coordinators for the technology platforms at Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence invite you to an open house in Science City Hamburg-Bahrenfeld. On 31 January 2024, we will show you how to use large equipment and facilities and researchers can inform themselves about their uses.

Creating excellent research infrastructure is one of Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence’s central goals. Therefore, in the past few years, the University has established 5 technology platforms in the fields of mass spectrometry, light microscopy, electron microscopy, and cryo-electron microscopy. We have also set up the clean room at the Center for Hybrid Nanostructures (CHYN). The University wants to optimize the use of the generally very expensive facilities, ensuring interdisciplinary and sustainable approaches as well as synergies.

“Researchers profit in multiple ways from these platforms,” says Dr. Martina Bachmann, platform expert. “Scientific supervision of the technology platforms facilitates sustainable operations and the procurement of innovative research infrastructure at cutting-edge levels. Researchers can use the equipment and facilities that are not available in their own department, meaning they do not have to go and purchase them themselves. They also enjoy technical and scientific support. Colleagues overseeing the individual platforms help them plan, execute, and evaluate their research projects.”

If you are interested in the research findings that the platforms have so far made possible and want to know how you can use the equipment and facilities yourself, you can find out on 31 January 2024 between 9 am and 1 pm at the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) in Science City Hamburg-Bahrenfeld (Building 15, Notkestraße 85, 22607 Hamburg). Between 3 and 5 pm, visitors can look at the equipment at the respective locations and find out more about specific uses.

See the technology platform pages for more program details and the link to register.
