Women’s Advancement Fund

The Women’s Advancement Fund is offering €10,000 for the 2026 calendar year. The money can be used to support projects that dismantle gender-based disadvantages in studies, teaching, research, and administration. Funding will be granted to support projects concerned with structural and conceptual innovation as well as with the implementation of the University’s agreed-upon goals in the areas of women’s advancement and gender equality.

The following projects and activities are eligible for funding: 

• teaching and research projects on women’s and gender issues (including reconciling academic, professional, and family life) 
• events relating to research on women’s and gender issues 
• projects on implementing gender mainstreaming in studies and teaching, research, and administration 
• training programs for women 
• projects on reconciling academic, professional, and family obligations 

We prefer interdisciplinary projects. The Women’s Advancement Fund does not provide funding for individual support measures.

The maximum funding amount per project should not exceed €2,000. When you apply, please indicate whether or not you have applied for funding for this project elsewhere. 

Money from the Women’s Advancement Fund at University of Hamburg is intended to promote especially 

• projects without other funding sources, 
• projects that require one-off supplementary funding, or 
• projects involving the acquisition of external funding or seed financing.

For budgetary reasons, authorized funds from the Women’s Advancement Fund 2026 must be transferred and settled by December, 31st 2026. It is NOT possible to carry over funds into the following year!

Eligible applicants are:

• the equal opportunity representatives for all University institutions
• all members of University of Hamburg (excluding the UKE) involved in projects related to women, gender, and compatibility may apply

Please send your application to the Equal Opportunity Commissioner at University of Hamburg, i.e., the chair of the Equal Opportunity Committee: chancengerechtigkeit"AT"uni-hamburg.de. 

The application must contain the following information: 

• Name of the responsible person(s) and those involved in the project 
• Project aims, with reference to the requirements detailed in these funding guidelines 
• Project time frame 
• Detailed budget plan (where necessary, incl. a statement on endeavors to secure funding from other sources) 
• Project plan and schedule

You can submit applications until January, 7th 2026 (deadline) for projects to be completed by 31 December 2026. Further applications can be submitted if any funding remains.
