Making Finished Courses Visible Again

Good to know:
When creating a course, the execution period is automatically set to the current semester. One week after the current period ends, all courses whose execution period was set to that semester are automatically concluded. However, this does not mean that the course is deleted. It remains visible in the Authoring tab or in the Courses tab in the “Finished” section. Completed courses can no longer be edited. For participants, the course remains available in archive mode with read-only access, so materials stay accessible, but no new entries can be made. If you would like to continue using a course from the previous semester, you can manually change the execution period to the new semester or alternatively choose a custom period.
How to proceed:
- In your course, click on Settings in the Administration menu.
- Switch to the Execution tab.
- Change the course period in the Time Period dropdown menu to the current semester, then click Save.
- Alternatively, you can select the option With begin and end date and then specify the desired begin and end date. This can be useful if the course should remain available outside the regular semester periods, or if it is already clear that the course will be used over a longer period of time.
- Change the course status by clicking the status next to the Administration menu, which is currently still set to Finished.
- If you want to publish the course, select Published.
- If you would still like to make some changes to the course, you can first select Preparation and publish the course after you have completed all changes
