Cluster of Excellence CUIVideo Insights into Research on new Functionalities of Matter

Shooting lasers at matter to find answers to unsolved questions. For Kai-Fu Wong, this is everyday life in the lab. His specialty is ultrashort pulses in the attosecond and femtosecond range, which allow for particularly precise investigation of states of matter. At the Bahrenfeld campus in Hamburg, he especially values the vibrant research environment and the chance to exchange ideas with his colleagues.
In a second video, Sarodi Jonak Dutta explains how gold, silver and copper can be synthesized into tiny structures with unique properties. These metals self-assemble into so-called supercrystals. It is this research, and its potential to reduce dependence on fossil resources, that led Sarodi to Hamburg and to the Cluster of Excellence “CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter.”
