Funding for studentsThe University of Hamburg Awards More than 300 Deutschlandstipendien
20 February 2026, by Newsroom editorial office
Festive award ceremony in the Audimax: more than 300 students from all disciplines granted monthly funding from companies, foundations, associations, and private individuals for 2026.
Funding is granted, regardless of subject area, to especially talented and committed students who have to navigate particular challenges or educational hurdles. Each scholarship contributes €3,600 per year, for a total funding amount of more than one million euros, to be paid out to students at the University of Hamburg in 2026.
The scholarships are made possible thanks to 104 non-state providers. Businesses, foundations, associations, and private patrons take part in this program for students by earmarking a monthly €150 donation per scholarship to the University. The federal government and the state of Hamburg then matches those funds, meaning students receive €300 per month. Funders can choose which degree programs they wish to support. For students and their providers, the University also offers an extensive fringe program with ample opportunity for networking and exchange.
The new recipients for 2026 were ceremoniously welcomed and handed their scholarships on 18 February 2026. The University president, Prof. Dr. Hauke Heekeren, opened proceedings with a welcoming speech. Jan Henri Kalinowski, founder of CheffTreff, a non-profit initiative from Hamburg that connects young talents from business and technology with leading companies and experts, gave the keynote speech in front of 400 guests. During the reception afterwards, sponsors and funding recipients had time to talk to each other.
