International exchange and networking: the University of Hamburg has been a member of the European University Alliance for Global Health for several years. At the beginning of 2026, it took over the annually rotating EUGLOH presidency.
The focus of this year’s presidency will be to complete the current project phase and strategic preparations for EUGLOH’s future: in 2026, EUGLOH will apply for an additional 2 years of funding through the EU, an opportunity to build upon all that it has already established and to continue with its successful collaboration in the future.
“Transformative change is not only a central component of our University’s strategy, but also a tangible result of collaboration within EUGLOH and the European Universities alliances,” says President Hauke Heekeren, who will chair the EUGLOH Governing Board from January to December 2026. “This synergy enables us to contribute our expertise to the alliance’s dynamic development, while also benefiting from its transformative impact across partner universities, particularly through the wide range of opportunities for international and interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching.”
Another highlight: the EUGLOH Annual Summit
One of the pivotal aspects of EUGLOH is that the partner universities actively and equally shape the development of the alliance’s development and take home many ideas from the international exchange. In a swiftly changing European university landscape, EUGLOH offers opportunities for synergies and mutual aid.
Another exciting highlight of the University of Hamburg’s presidency is the EUGLOH Annual Summit, which will be held in Hamburg and is a great opportunity for exchange between EUGLOH universities and partners. In September, University of Hamburg staff and students will have a chance to talk to participants under the motto “Science and the City: Exploring Pathways for Global Health Innovation.”
