The first 5 digits for most University numbers are now: 2395-2xxxx.

The University welcomes 2026 with a telephone system changeover. With a few exceptions University telephone numbers have been changed. The first 5 digits of the University line are now: 2395-2xxxx. Most extensions remain the same.

From January 2026, personal telephone numbers of University employees following the format 42838-/42816-/42883- or similar + 4-digit extension are no longer valid. This also applies to various service numbers such as the media telephone number.

The new telephone format is: 2395-2xxxx generally followed by the previous extension. Accordingly, the new media number is: +49 40 2395-22968.

Be aware that the following hotline numbers, are excluded from the changeover:

  • The central University telephone number: +49 40 42838-0
  • The Regional Computing Center’s ServiceLine: +49 40 42838-7790 (Mon–Fri, from 9 am–4 pm)
  • The STiNE helpline: +49 40 42838-5000, Mon–Fri: 9 am–1 pm)
  • The Campus Center line: +49-40-42838-7000, Mon–Fri: 9:30–12 noon and 1–3:30 pm, Thu: 12 noon–4 pm)

These contact points can still be reached under their old telephone numbers.

If in doubt, check the respective institution’s website or contact the person you wish to speak to by email in advance.
