The sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) is just one of the animal species recorded on the GEO Nature Day.

"The number of plant and animal species recorded on the GEO Nature Day far exceeded our expectations," said Martin Kubiak, insect researcher at the Center of Natural History (CeNak). On 17 and 18 June 2017 more than 100 plant and animal experts and around 500 Hamburg residents convened at a total of 32 locations throughout the city to assess Hamburg's natural diversity.
