MMKH-Workshop: AI Law in the Higher Education Context – Copyright Law

This event takes place in German.

This workshop analyzes the profound impact of generative AI on copyright law within the context of teaching and research. Specifically, the following questions will be addressed:

- Eligibility of AI outputs for protection: Why do purely machine-generated contents not qualify for copyright protection, and what are the implications for designating them as being in the public domain?

- Legally compliant prompting: At what point do your instructions (prompts) meet the threshold of originality, and what risks arise from inputting third-party materials protected by copyright?

- AI training & TDM: Under what conditions do text and data mining provisions (Sections 44b, 60d of the German Copyright Act) permit the automated analysis of works for research purposes?

- Use of works in the AI ​​era: How do copyright exceptions for teaching (Section 60a) and research (Section 60c) apply to the use of AI-supported teaching materials and interactive learning modules?
