MMKH-Workshop: AI Law in Higher Education – AI Act & Labeling Obligations for AI-Generated Content

With the deadline of August 2, 2026, the transition period for the far-reaching transparency obligations of the European AI Regulation has expired. Universities are now obligated to fully disclose the use of generative systems in order to prevent deception and safeguard trust in scientific communication. This workshop will develop a legally sound strategy for implementing Article 50 of the AI ​​Regulation in university operations.

A key focus will be on the labeling of deepfakes and the labeling requirement for informational texts concerning matters of public interest.

Further key topics include:

- Definition and delimitation: Who is the "operator" at the university – the institution, the faculty, or the individual instructor?

- Deepfakes in teaching and research: Implementation of the labeling requirement for photorealistic media and synthetic voices according to Article 50(4) of the AI ​​Regulation

- Freedom of information vs. transparency: When must AI-generated texts on public matters (e.g., press releases, public information) be labeled?

- The "Human-in-the-Loop" Privilege: Elimination of mandatory labeling through genuine editorial responsibility and human review

- Technical Standards: Use of digital watermarks, C2PA metadata, and the EU-wide AI icon in accordance with the Code of Practice

- Liability and Compliance: Risk management to avoid sanctions and warnings
