Science on Tap premiereTwo Nights, Double the Fun in Hamburg’s Pubs

At Science on Tap, researchers at 50 pubs provide an entertaining look at their current projects and guide the public into the world of science and scholarship. The goal for researchers is to avoid jargon and traditional lectures and to present their topics in an entertaining and accessible way for a lay public. After each talk, there is plenty of time for discussion.
This year for the first time, the event will take place on two evenings: Wednesday, 3 June, and Thursday, 4 June, both at 8 pm. Each lecture is a one-time event. Guests can look forward to a diverse program featuring a range of exciting research topics, from the German healthcare system, the physics of life, musicality and poetry to Nutri-Score and the question of how animals communicate through vibrations.
The basic idea behind the event is that it takes place outside of labs, lecture halls, and experimental facilities, where guests, whatever their level of knowledge, can learn about and discuss cutting-edge research findings.
DESY and the University of Hamburg have been co-hosting Science on Tap since 2015. They enjoy the support of the University’s clusters of excellence CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter and Quantum Universe, as well as from Pier Plus, the strategic partnership between Hamburg’s universities and non-university research institutions. Science on Tap is funded through the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.
