Researchers will be giving short, entertaining talks on their current projects at about 50 pubs and bars, giving the public some insight into science and scholarship outside of the ivory tower’s lecture halls and labs. Guests can look forward to a rich program of talks in the most various research areas, from the survival strategies of parasites and space travel to mini accelerators and the dangers of black holes. Visitors might also discover, for example, whether sign languages have any limits or whether Hamburg is set to become the “tree capital” of the future.
All of the talks highlight the basic principle of Science on Tap: giving people, regardless of their prior knowledge, insight into the latest findings in research in a casual setting and an opportunity to discuss.
Since the first event in 2015, DESY and the University of Hamburg have been hosting Science on Tap jointly. They enjoy the support of the University’s clusters of excellence CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter and Quantum Universe, and PIER PLUS, the strategic network of Hamburg’s universities and non-university research institutions. Science on Tap is funded through the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.
See www.wissenvomfass.de for an overview of participating pubs and bars and the talks, some of which will be held in English.
