In addition to the concerts, there will be academic lectures and fun activities for kids.
In cooperation with the Hamburg Observatory, University Music at the University of Hamburg invites the public to the second Sternstunden Festival on 19 and 20 July 2024. Visitors can expect all types of music and interesting academic contributions on the historical grounds of the Hamburg Observatory in Bergedorf.

After its successful debut in the summer of 2023, University Music the Particle Physics and Astrophysics research area, which is based at the Hamburg Observatory, are bringing the Sternstunden Festival back. Two days of music from a wide range of genres await, paired with interesting lectures, experiments, and scientific facts about the universe. The festival will take place in the observatory’s park, the historic telescope domes, and the old library.

The music at the festival will include classical ensemble and choral music, electronic soundscapes, big band sounds, and folk dance music. Many of the artists are active members of the University Music ensembles. In addition to the music, visitors will have the chance to gain fascinating insights into the world of astrophysics through lectures on current research topics, presentations on the history of the Hamburg Observatory, and experiments on phenomena in space. Weather permitting, visitors will also be able to look through the telescopes from 10 pm.

The on-site Stellar café and food trucks from Hamburg and the surrounding area will provide refreshments. There will also be fun activities for children on both days.

On Friday, 19 July 2024, the festival starts at 3 pm and ends at around 1 am. On Saturday, 20 July, the festivities start at 12 noon and end around midnight. Tickets are available on the festival website and from the box office on the night. Visit the website for further information and advance booking offices. Ticket prices start at €10.
