Prof. Dr. Dieter Lenzen

The three coexisting higher education systems—the continental Europen, the Anglo-American, and the East Asian systems—are currently converging towards the Anglo-American concept of "education as business." The results are manifold: Studying has often become prohibitively expensive and has also been reduced to mere vocational training. Research now orients itself according to the utilitarian interests of the market. Dieter Lenzen investigates this development and calls for nations to agree upon a concept of higher education that does not serve the economic needs of individual or society, but instead fosters development towards a humane future.
