Application
The link for registration can be found at
online application for admission to doctorate.
Though there is only the doctoral subject "Earth sciences" we will ask you for a further specification (e.g. Geography, Meteorology,...) when you apply for admission. This will help the doctoral committee of the department when nominating the members of the examination commission later.
Doctoral Committee
Decisions concerning doctorates are made by the
Doctoral Committee of the department for Earth sciences.
Meetings during summersemester 2012:
25. April 2012 - applications have to be submitted to the Study Office by 18. April 2012
30. May 2012 - applications have to be submitted to the Study Office by 21. May 2012
The meetings are closed.
Enrollment
After having been admitted to the doctorate by the doctoral committee, you have to enroll for the doctoral degree programme "Geowissenschaften (Promotion)" within 3 months. Further information can be found
here.
Supervision agreement
After admission to the doctorate you draw up a
supervision agreement together with your supervisor or supervisors within 6 months. Please submit a copy of the supervision agreement to the Study Office.

Deadlines for submission of the dissertation and oral doctorate defense
If you wish the oral doctorate defense to take place during the same term as the dissertation was submitted the deadline is
- for summersemester 2012: ..
- for wintersemester 2012/2013: ..
Please note that submitting the dissertation in time does not entitle to an oral defense during the same semester. The final decision is made by the departmental doctoral committee. If you submit the dissertation after the respective deadline, the oral defense takes place in the following semester.

For submission of your dissertation please submit the following form:

If you want to propose memebers of the examination commission (part D of the form), please note the following:
- at least one of the reviewers of the dissertation has to be a professor of the department. Normally, the supervisors have to be nominated here.
- at least two of the three reviewers of the oral doctoral defense have to be professors or "habilitierte" members of the department.
- no more than three of the five members of the examination commission should come from your doctoral subject as specified during the admission procedure.
Oral doctorate defense
For registration for the oral defense please submit the following form:
The doctoral candidate is required to arrange a date for the oral defense. The following time slots are available in the Department for Earth Sciences during wintersemester 2011/2012:
- tuesdays 14 - 18 h (Geomatikum Hörsaal 3)
- wednesdays 12 - 18 h (Geomatikum Hörsaal 4)
- fridays 12 - 14 h (Geomatikum Hörsaal 5)
Publication of the dissertation
Within a year after successful termination of the doctorate, the dissertation has to be published.

Interim regulations
Doctorates having been applied for before April 6, 2011, can be terminated according to the former "
Promotionsordnung" or according to the new egulations. For details see
