Department of Integrative Geography

WELCOME

The department’s objective is to bridge physical and human geography in order to follow recent trends and reintegrate both disciplinary working areas in the research and teaching practice. The focus is on human/nature-interactions and the interplay of natural systems and human societies.

Main topics are resources and resource management, sustainable regional development, nature and environment protection, natural hazards as well as the perception and management. Scientific methods include empirical research especially in coastal areas, on islands, in so called development countries and in rural peripheries. General theoretical approaches are based on system theories in particular the complexity theory. Central aspects are the linkage and the analysis of non-linear dynamic systems.

Our homepage provides information about research works, students’ research which takes place in our department as well as part of cooperation in national and international joint projects and an overview about recent publications.
