The Art Peace Project grew out of several experiments investigating how creating and analyzing art might lead to new ways of seeing one’s self and the world, and thus provide impetus for founding a culture grounded in peace and human rights. The project also hosts a forum for investigating how working with artistic media – from improvisation and puppetry, through story-telling and photography, to critical analysis of films and fiction literature – can contribute to human rights and peace education.
AStA (Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss, “Student Committee”) is the political center for the support of student interests. A team of eight representatives organizes the student politics and represents Hamburg students in matters with the university, politics, and public. The cross-faculty Career Center guides students, graduates, and young researchers on their way to a career. In addition to workshops about career orientation, application processes, career planning, and cross-faculty skills, regular lecture series ("Fishing and Talking for Careers") take place to inform, discuss, and network. Events like the Job Expo, Career Day, or event series like "Going for Careers" allow for contacts to companies to be made. The Multilingual Writing Workshop targets its courses towards teacher training students with a migrant background. Its Writing Advisor training program (Zertifikat “Schreibberaterin/Schreibberater”) is aimed at all students at Universität Hamburg. The Workshop offers a Writing Café, a Writing Group, individual writing skills advising, as well as workshops. Students can also earn the Zertifikat “Schreibberaterin/Schreibberater”. The Multilingual Writing Workshop, headed up by Prof. Dr. Ursula Neumann, is an initiative of the FörMig-Kompetenzzentrum and is funded by the Zeit-Stiftung Ebelin and Gerd Bucerius.

The Thalia Theater ranks among the most renowned theaters in the German-speaking countries and opened its doors as early as 1843. In October 2010, the playhouse launched the project "Thalia Migration", a program series that challenges social and intercultural change in the auditorium. Info

In establishing the Universitätskolleg, Universität Hamburg aims to pave the way to a fundamental improvement and reorganization of both teaching and studying in higher education, and thus set an important trend on the journey towards becoming a sustainable university.
