Research questions:
Which linguistic means applied by interpreters serve to enhance the comprehensibility of source-language discourse? Do procedures such as explicitations, explanations, or replacements of linguistic forms differ with respect to the interpreting mode (consecutive vs. simultaneous), and (if so) to which extent?
Methods:
We investigate speeches on the social and ecological consequences of genetically modified seeds held by a Brazilian expert in front of a German non-expert audience. The speeches were held at different places throughout Germany and attended by different interpreters (see download for details). Source and target discourse will be compared referring to the use of discourse markers, deictic expressions and proper names/acronyms.
