Veronika Sara El-Hawari
Trainer for Empowerment
Together with Patience Amankwah, I lead the regular empowerment sessions for BI_PoC students.
I work full-time in political education and extremism prevention and am studying interdisciplinary public and nonprofit studies at the master’s level at Universität Hamburg. My main focus is on anti-discrimination and empowerment, whereby I strive for an intersectional perspective that takes into account varying forms of discrimination and how they are linked.
I aim to create a space where resources can be identified and shared and all participants are seen as experts in their own experiences and strategies. The sessions are intended to give participants a forum where they can share these strategies and resources with each other and empower one another. My understanding of empowerment is political. In other words, I believe that empowerment must be thought of as being critical of political structures in order not to consolidate or stabilize these structures, but instead to offer people a space to both acknowledge their experiences of racism and discrimination and become empowered as they engage in dialog with other BI_PoC.
I look forward to all participants who come with varying levels of previous knowledge on the topics!
